Slicing Onions

Dicing Onions
Step 1:
Cut off both the root and hairy end of the onion.
Step 1
Step 2-3:
Stand the onion up straight on a flat end. Cut it in half. Peel off the thick outer skin.

Step 4:
Place the half-moon shaped flat end down on the cutting board. Cut onion into slices perpendicular to the root end. DO NOT cut all the way to the opposite end; keep about 1/8th to ¼ inch of onion at opposite end uncut and in tact. This holds the onion in one piece and prevents it from falling apart.

Step 5-6:
Now cut the onion across the center in the other direction parallel to the cutting board in equal length slices.

Step 7:
Then slice along the half-moon shape across the onion. This will produce evenly diced pieces and this technique works nicely with white, yellow, and red onions.
